Brandied Mulled Wine
Posted by Alayne Gardner-Carimi on
Warming comfort and joy in a cup! Choose a bottle of dark, fruity red wine that you'd drink as-is: the quality of the mulled wine depends on the quality of the wine. A moderately-priced, good quality wine will do just fine.
Ingredients (4-6 servings)
2 medium oranges, sliced
8 to 10 whole cloves
3 medium cinnamon sticks
4 star anise
2 teaspoons minced ginger pieces
⅓ cup vomFASS Orange Liqueur
¼ cup vomFASS Italian Brandy
¼ cup (or to taste) maple syrup
¼ cup fresh cranberries for garnish
1 (750-milliliter) bottle Caricature Red Blend Wine
2 medium oranges, sliced
8 to 10 whole cloves
3 medium cinnamon sticks
4 star anise
2 teaspoons minced ginger pieces
⅓ cup vomFASS Orange Liqueur
¼ cup vomFASS Italian Brandy
¼ cup (or to taste) maple syrup
¼ cup fresh cranberries for garnish
1 (750-milliliter) bottle Caricature Red Blend Wine
Directions
Slice oranges; one to mull with wine, set aside the other as garnish.
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and give them a quick stir.
Heat until the wine almost reaches a simmer over medium-high heat.
(Avoid letting it bubble in any way. Alcohol begins to vaporize at 172°F, so take care to ensure that the wine does not evaporate.)
Reduce heat to low, cover completely, and let the wine simmer for at least 15 minutes or up to 3 hours.
Using a fine mesh strainer, remove the orange slices, cloves, cinnamon sticks, star anise and ginger.
Give the mulled wine a taste and if needed stir in your desired amount maple syrup.
Serve warm in heatproof mugs, top with orange slice, a sprinkle of cranberries and a cinnamon stick.
