Dog Days & Tequila

Posted by Alayne Gardner-Carimi on

The Dog Days of Summer are here—and we say, bring them on. Whether you’re lounging by a pool, anchored on a lake, or unwinding after work, vomFASS has you covered with drinkable ways to chill out.

Yes, the heat is intense. Yes, it’s hard to get motivated. But that’s exactly why these long, lazy days call for simpler pleasures: cool drinks, flavorful bites, and a reason to slow down.

And here's a fun fact: July 24 is National Tequila Day, perfectly timed to help us celebrate the season in style.

But before we pour a glass, let’s take a quick step back in time…

Why Are They Called the Dog Days?

The term “Dog Days” comes from ancient Greece and Rome…

In late July and early August, the star Sirius—the brightest in the night sky—rises just before the sun. Sirius is part of the constellation Canis Major, or the “Greater Dog.” It is closest to the sun on July 23rd. Early astronomers believed that the combined heat of Sirius and the sun created summer’s sweltering temperatures. The Dog Days include the 20 days before and after this event (July 3 – Aug 11).

In truth, it’s all about Earth’s tilt and orbit—but the name stuck. And so did the feeling: hot days, golden light, the urge to take it slow, and the craving for something refreshing.

Today, we still use the phrase to describe the hottest part of the year—though we tend to embrace it more than our ancient ancestors did. These days, Dog Days call for cool drinks, laid-back afternoons, and flavors that match the heat with sizzling personality.

vomFASS Spirits of Summer

🌵 vomFASS Organic TequilasBlanco, Reposado & Añejo Tequila wasn’t always a household name. Before Prohibition, it was mostly unknown outside of Mexico. But when thirsty Americans started heading south for legal drinks, tequila began its rise. After repeal, its bold, agave-forward flavor stuck with adventurous drinkers—and eventually tequila became a summer staple.

Today, it’s hard to imagine warm weather without it.

We carry a curated line of organic, craft-distilled tequilas made from 100% blue agave:

Blanco – Crisp, clean, and ready for mixing
Reposado – Rested in oak for smooth, mellow notes
Añejo – Aged to bring out depth, richness, and spice

Whether you’re shaking Margaritas, sipping slowly, or getting creative with summer marinades, our tequilas are meant to be savored—and shared.

🧂 Margarita con Sal – Pre-mixed and read to pour with orange liqueur & Andalusian brandy.

For effortless entertaining—or just an end-of-day reward—try our perfectly pre-mixed blend of premium 100% blue agave tequila, orange liqueur, Spanish brandy, and a pinch of salt. Just pour over ice, kick your feet up, and relax.
