Celebrate Earth — Arbor Day
There are plenty of ways to celebrate this time of year. You could plant a tree, commit to composting, or finally get disciplined about those reusable bags. All solid choices.
But there’s also a version of sustainability that doesn’t require a personality shift or a new system to manage. It’s simpler than that—and, frankly, a little more satisfying:
Use what you already have, then refill it for less.
Because the habits that stick are the ones that make sense in real life. And ideally, they come with a little upside.
Fun Facts
Reuse > Recycle (Yes, Really)
Recycling tends to get all the attention, but reusing is where things start to click. It cuts out the waste before it exists and, as a bonus, it tends to be more economical.
At vomFASS, that idea has been built into the model since 1994. Our refill system keeps more than 3.5 million bottles in use each year. And on a very practical level, it changes what you’re paying for—when you refill, you’re not covering the cost of new packaging or something destined for the bin. You’re simply paying for the product itself.
It’s a small shift, but one that feels noticeably smarter once you get used to it.
Supporting sustainable agriculture is tree planting—just in a more delicious form.
Our mango products, for example, help fund the planting of over 2,000 mango trees every year in the Philippines. That’s not just carbon capture—that’s shade, soil stability, biodiversity, and long-term income for farming communities.
So yes, plant a tree. But also drizzle something incredible on your salad that helped plant thousands more.
We don’t do anonymous sourcing. We don’t do “somewhere in the Mediterranean-ish.” We build real relationships with small farms, family producers, and artisan makers who care deeply about their land.
- The apples in our balsamics? Grown in traditional German orchard meadows that support biodiversity.
- The cocoa fruit used in some of our products? Rescued from being wasted and turned into something remarkable.
- Our Fairtrade products? Supporting over 9,000 small farmers in Mauritius and the Philippines.
This is the part customers feel—even if they don’t always put words to it. When something is grown well, harvested thoughtfully, and made without shortcuts… it just tastes better.
About Those Almost-Empty Bottles
Last month’s “pantry reset” was all about pulling those nearly-finished bottles forward instead of letting them quietly linger. Some of you handled that immediately. Others… may still have a few stragglers.
Either way, this is the perfect time to finish them off with a little intention. Whip up a batch of Everything Salad Dressing (works on just about everything and it’s the kind of thing that disappears quickly because you keep finding reasons to use it.) or Leaf Nothing Behind Marinade (elevates whatever it touches—chicken, vegetables, even tofu). (recipes below).
These mixtures tend to surprise people with their layered nuances. Which is a nice reminder that “using things up” doesn’t have to feel like a chore (recipes below or on our website)
Refill for Spring
Once your bottles are empty, give them a quick wash, let them dry, and bring them in. Spring is the perfect time to refresh your lineup with brighter, more vibrant flavors—
- fresh extra virgin olive oils,
- citrus or herb infusions,
- crisp white balsamics,
- fruit vinegars that pair naturally with what’s in season.
It’s a small shift, but it changes how you cook in a way that feels easy and immediate.
Product Integrity
What keeps people coming back is the combination behind it: quality products, thoughtful sourcing, and a system that makes it easy to reuse instead of replace.
It’s not complicated. It’s just well considered.
Bring in your bottles, refill them with something you’re excited to use, and enjoy the rare moment where being practical, sustainable, and just a little indulgent all line up nicely.
