Magically Delicious Irish Whiskey
Did you know the word whiskey comes from the Irish uisce beatha, meaning water of life? No wonder it’s so irresistible! Irish whiskey is all about craftsmanship, resilience, and just the right touch of magic—qualities we at vomFASS seek in every specialty product we bring into our store.
What makes our Irish whiskey selection even more special? Our exclusive relationship with Stephen and Jack Teeling. Thanks to these Teeling Brothers' blending expertise and private cask inventory, we’re able to offer whiskeys that are truly one-of-a-kind. With over 230 International Whiskey awards, Jack and Stephen's creations raise the bar for Irish Whiskeys.
Smooth Sippin'
Irish whiskey is famous for being light, fruity, and incredibly easy to sip. You’ll notice hints of cereal grains, while barrel aging (whether in sherry, bourbon, or rum casks) adds the rich notes of oak and caramel. Unlike Scotch, which often brings smoky, peaty flavors, Irish whiskey leans towards smooth, mellow perfection.
5 Types of Irish Whiskey
For a whiskey to earn its Irish badge of honor, it must be distilled in Ireland from fermented cereal grains, have an alcohol strength below 94.8% ABV, be aged at least 3 years in Ireland in wooden casks (max 185 gallons) and be bottled at a minimum of 40% ABV. Once they've met those requirements, there are 5 main types of Irish Whiskeys...
Blended Irish Whiskey – The most common style, blended Irish whiskey is a combination of different types of Irish whiskey, such as malt, pot still, and grain and makes up 90% of Irish Whiskeys.
Single Malt – 100% malted barley, made at a single distillery
Single Pot Still – A uniquely Irish style using both malted and unmalted barley
Grain Whiskey – A lighter whiskey made from corn or wheat in column stills
Single Grain – Similar to grain whiskey but crafted from a single grain
